I think that my view has changed now that I know how much journalists communicate using new media and the internet. I thought most of it was still done using print but now that technology is taking over people's lives, it makes sense that journalism would follow the same way.

Blog Post # 7 Assignment: How do we communicate?
I think that my view has changed now that I know how much journalists communicate using new media and the internet. I thought most of it was still done using print but now that technology is taking over people's lives, it makes sense that journalism would follow the same way.

Blog Post # 6: Assignment – Rick Sanchez: Excellent Source of New Media BUT is this Journalism?
- Be objective. This means that you should be reporting the news in a non-biased way and free of opinion.
- Be accurate. Never report a false story and make sure that you know all the facts before you write a story.
- Acknowledge your sources. Cite your information where it is needed and know how to properly attribute sources.
- Have good people skills. Always be curtious to your subjects and treat them how you would want to be treated.
- Be responsible. If you printed a false statement, own up to it and correct it by printing a statement with the correct information.
- Stong writing skills. Being able to write an interesting story will help you succeed. If you can accurately write a story as well as make it exciting to read, then you have done your job.
- Stong work-ethic. Being a journalist means staying up late writing and even longer work hours during the day. Being able to keep your composure and work dilligently is a must.
- Stay curious. The passion for finding stories must always be burning inside of a good journalist.
- Be innovative. Keep learning and try new methods of reporting your stories or obtaining your stories.
- Learn from your mistakes.
I think that even though Rick Sanchez does not follow all of the characteristics of a good journalist, he is still out there reporting the news to the people. Sure it may be a little unorthodox at times but it is just a different and innovative way of reporting. I also think that not everyone can be a journalist just because they are blogging and interacting with newcasts online. Journalism won't be overrun by citizen journalists because there isnt a big enough audience that follows that kind of journalism to make it bigger than normal newscasts.

Blog Post # 4 Assignment: “EPIC 2015” Response
I don't believe however that Google and Amazon would combine because they are competitive and they do well enough as seperate entities. Also, what about Facebook? It would have definetly evolved since its inception in 2006. Social Networking sites are a huge part of new media and continue to grow and change. The movie should have added a part about that instead of Friendster because it would probably be much bigger in 2015 then it is today. Still, I can imagine that Google will expand and grow into the future because it is a thriving business and it is continously changing.

Blog Post # 5 Assignment: The New “Blogosphere” of the News – Will it Hinder or Hurt Journalism?
This blog is about the rumors surrounding President Obama's birth certificate and whether or not he was born in Hawaii or outside of the United States. Tom Foreman, an AC360 correspondent, takes the stand that people who are worried about the legality of Obama's birthplace should either put their words into actions or keep their mouths shut. He also brings up the point that if any real evidence had come up regarding wether or not he was born in the United States, then it would have been a huge story and the press would have made a big deal over it.
This post is rough and written from the reporter's point of view with his opinion clearly stated. Compared to a newscast which would steer away from the anchor's opinion on the topic, Foreman uses his opinion to let the reader know what side of the debate he is on. It is also much shorter than a regular news story. As for the information? It is interesting but not very informative. It presents the argument of Obama's birthplace from the point of view of someone who is against the rumors and conspiracy theories. A good newscast story wouldn't take sides and it would give the reader the whole story from every angle. But that is the new way to do things in journalism. New journalists are learning new techniques and new ways of writing for news. Because blogs and new media are fast becoming the favorite form of obtaining news, New journalists have to learn the technology to be able to keep up.

The Future of Print Journalism

With such easy access to the internet nowadays, people are turning further away from traditional newspapers and towards technology that can provide them with news much faster than then newspapers ever could. At this rate, it seems that print journalism will not be able to survive the popularity of new media. Within ABC News Channel 3's blog, the future of print journalism, Bill Bolduc, UNCW Communications professor, said, "Some scholars predict that within 15 to 20 years we won't have newspapers anymore." And while larger daily puplications are facing a crisis, the local papers are still going strong. Also stated in this blog, Publisher Les High says that in small communities "It's not just a want, it's something they need to have, whether it be keeping up with school news or the best prices in town."
Many people are excited to move away from the past and are willing to let print journalism go. In Mark Glaser's blog, 10 Reasons There's a Bright Future for Journalism, he has many valid points that give you an insight to the future of journalism. Glaser states that the use of the internet can give readers much more access to worldwide news not just what is written by American reporters.
So a look into the future? If the popularity of new media keeps rising print journalism may become obselete and the stuff of legendary news reporters. The plain and simple fact is that humans need immediate satisfaction and if that means choosing between opening up safari or driving down to the drugstore to buy a paper, I think most people will be staying home. Newspapers will soon have to come to grips with the fact that new media is taking over how we recieve our news and that the internet is the next frontier for journalism.

Blog post #2
This world news blog is about how Russia received a gift of two, rare Persian Leopards from Iran. They received two Siberian Tigers from Russia in exchange. Both countries are trying to revive their respective large cat populations and are helping each other out. This is a good example of world news because it involves two countries trying to help each other out.

This sports blog is about the first game of the western conference semifinals in which the Lakers beat the Jazz 104 to 99. But as the game wore on and it was the bench’s turn to step up, the Laker’s bench was not up to the task. They lost an 8 point lead in the fourth quarter which is unacceptable. This is a good sports blog because it has player’s reactions as well as the writers opinion.

This blog is very interesting to me because it pertains to the world track and field circuit. I run track and am a big fan of the pro races. In this blog, some topics that are discussed are the major races held in May and it highlights some of the major stars on the track today.

This journalism blog is about Erin McDonaugh who won this year’s Society of Professional Journalists’ high school essay contest on press freedom understands the link between media freedom and civil liberties. This contest is used to increase the understanding and knowledge of free media. This is a good example of a journalism blog because it deals with current journalism issues.

This blog is an example of using photo journalism in a blog. It is about how the Phoenix Suns will wear their “Los Suns” jerseys during Wednesday night’s game to "to honor [the] Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona, and our nation." This blog has a big picture at the top of it of two of the Sun’s players conversing while wearing their “Los Suns” jerseys.

New media: good or bad for journalism?
New media is a staple for getting news for this technology-driven generation. It is faster and easier to access then waiting for the paper each morning. While most oldies like to walk down the driveway on a cold morning, they could easily get the same news from the comfort of their computer or tv. Journalism has found a way to get the news out faster and more efficiently. I think that it is for the better because technology is taking over people’s lives and the next generation of kids will know how to look up a word on dictionary.com before they know how to do it using a real dictionary.
But could this mean the end of print journalism? While it may seem that way, I feel that there are enough diehard newspaper people to keep at least a few running. The ones that will thrive the most though are the local papers because they don’t have to cover everything that is going on in the world, just around town.
